According to data announced by TÜİK on 10 September, calendar-adjusted industrial production fell by 0.3% in July compared with the same month of the previous year, while seasonally and calendar-adjusted industrial production fell by 1.0% compared with the previous month. On an annual basis, the manufacturing index rose by 0.3%, while mining and quarrying fell by 3.8% and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply fell by 5.6%; capital goods production decreased by 2.6%. TÜBİAD's assessment

In TÜBİAD's assessment, the data point to a mixed picture in industry. Although the rise in capacity utilisation and the recovery in sectors producing investment goods are positive signals, the weakening in export order and investment expectations shows that producers are approaching the coming period with caution. In this context, it becomes more important for businesses to take capacity decisions gradually in line with order visibility, to spread their reliance on foreign markets across more than one market, and to use existing capacity more efficiently.

At TÜBİAD, we consider industrial indicators to be among the key inputs to the sector studies of the Research and Strategy Directorate. In sectors where capacity utilisation remains low, the International Market Access and Business Development Programme provides a working framework for seeking new markets and business partners, and the Digital Transformation and Productivity Programme provides one for process improvements aimed at using existing capacity more efficiently. Common sector-specific problems are addressed in the Applied Research and Workshop Programme.
